Anybody got any ideas why.....

my elise decides not too start after running beautifully....
Car fails to start, although fan is completely on as temperature shows min 75 degrees ( although engine cold). When ignition key is turned the car back fires and splutters but then dies....
Leave it for 2 or 3 hours and it seems to clear itself...
Have had to call the RAC out twice now!!!
Has this happened to anyone else out there?
