Lotus Cortina - How to distinguish a real from a fake ?

Gentlemen,

I did some research, and I found out that pre '65 models have a diferent prefix on the chassis number... and those after have got a different engine number... So this will be more difficult to distinguish a real from a fake?! Are there other possibilities? Who owns (owned) one?
