My God !!!
I've been wondering about an Elise to avoid knackering the 993 at trackdays, now I'm not so sure. Has this happened to anyone else ?
A firefighter friend of mine said in response to this that they would not consider trying to put out an Elise once it was well on fire and the same goes for a car with alloys ! This is because the ally has a tendency to explode and is, anyway, almost impossible to extinguish.

bloody hell!! - one of the potentials of having a plastic ca Im afraid.
I think you'll find that the 340R is more likely to be susceptible to this sort of thing, where an elise wouldnt be, because of the way they have mounted the engine and exhaust system - there are a lot of very hot parts, bound very close together....happens to bikes reasonably often when the exhausts cause melts in the wiring loom which leads to fires.
I wouldnt let this put you off getting an elise though - or in fact any car. Lots of people's vehicles have burnt up for no reason (saw a coach on fire on the M25 a few weeks back and a BMW a few weeks before that) - just make sure you have an extinguisher with you in yours - everyone should carry one.
Anyway - this must be incredibally rare
