im looking to buy a lotus elise s2 but really only have a top limit of 18k...ive seen a couple for this price but a bit unsure of what the condition would be?! there all about 5 hours from me so thought i'd ask u guys if u knew what i could expect from them before i waste my time!? im only 22 so insurance is expensive, this is the reason for my budget! also why are vx220's quite alot cheaper for the same year (2001)?! any help appreciated...

they should be fine at that age...havnt seen any with any significant mileage on either - just get it checked out by independant Lotus specialist or such like...or maybe friendly local Elise owner

VX's are cheaper because they didn't sell well when new, so dealers were forced to discount them significantly, like 10K off list if you believe some of the rumours, this obviously had an effect on the resale market.

VX For: A lot of fun for the money
Against: Need to find someone you trust to service it,
going to be harder to sell than an Elise if you get bored of it.

Either way budget for servicing and don't skimp on the insurance, both Elise and VX can be expensive to fix and are 'easy' to write off with a relatively minor incident.
