it was after tapping into google, "Lotus Concept" and then seeing "Lotus Eagle Concept", it was badged a Proton due to secrecy i gather.

not seen it on PH before so i thought it might be of interest, interesting looking vehicle, could give some design cues to what the Esprit might look like though.

if you recall, the Europa was badged a Proton originally, then changed to a Lotus due to the fact Lotus didn't want a Proton in their brand territory.

I've seen that photo a while ago, and believe that it's a Proton concept, and might have been a styling exercise for 'their' Europa. However, Proton are in the middle of takeover talks, and projects like this have apparently been shelved due to the uncertainty within the company.

It doesn't look like it's the Eagle - doesn't look long enough to be 2+2 and doesn't fit the descriptions that insiders have come up with (somewhere between the Ferrari 308GT4 and the M250).

Edited to add.... I may be wrong of course.

That car was intended as a Proton all along, then Proton got cold feet after most of the development work had already been done, Lotus decided they might as well carry on with it and badge it as a Lotus to fill in the void in the production line.

I thought that was said about the Europa - looks quite a bit like a Europa too...

I was hoping for more hard and agressive styling when I heard about this a while ago. I hope it comes to something a bit better than that!

ETA - I just hope they get the V6 sounding good and go well - maybe it could be a Noble M12 killer.

I'll say it again. That's not the Eagle. It's the Europa.

Err. the Europa is in production, just have to take a look at some pics to judge for yourselves...

Sorry, didn't make myself clear. As I understand it, that's a concept car for the model that became the Europa - it's an old photo. Proton wanted a more refined version of the Elise, showed that car, then bottled it and left the partly completed design to Lotus. They re-jigged things to fit the company style and ended up with the Europa that is now in production.

Heard there were meant to me some media teasers going out towards the end of this year and a press unvieling in 08 for sale by mid 08.

Wonder what name they'll go with?

How about Elite?

I've been told it's not going to be that, but not sure what to believe.
I know they are giving the old names an airing, but when pushed about the Elite they said no.

If it's a 2+2, shouldn't it be the Excel?

It's a V6 too though.

I think it would be good to see Excel used again.

Eclat came before Excel - then they got the mechanicals right wink

Seriously though - I don't see why they would need to re-use any names for a new 2+2 - Eclat & Excel have never had the cachet of models like Elan and Esprit. Time for a new name IMNSHO - what about Evasion, Elision, Eminence, Elephant or even Espace ;-) ?

I suspect they'll not be calling it "PMS" when it hits the roads though...
