Hi guys.

As you might know, I'm always looking ahead. I drive a Fiat X1/9 at the moment, but I know my next car will be an early '90s Lotus Elan. For insurance and cost issues, let's say it's normally aspirated for the sake of quotes.

However, my usual insurer (Lancaster), is just coming up with comedy premiums (£5445 was the last one!), which is odd as they were very competitive when insuring my Porsche 924, which had a bigger engine.

I've just submitted some details to a few insurers, but I'm insuring a theoretical car here - I can't give a registration number or details of the alarm system or anything, so it's difficult.

As the advert would have it, searching for car insurance does drive me crazy. I really don't like handing out my details to all and sundry.

So, is there anyone on here who has insured a Lotus, maybe an Elan, for a competitive price (<£600), at the age of 23 or thereabouts?

I'd be either based in North Oxfordshire or South Northamptonshire, so relatively low risk postcodes, and the car would be parked on the drive.

I'd be grateful for other people's experience of this one!

Thanks

Twincam,
Go to LotusElanCentral and have a look at these two threads:
http://www.lotuselancentral.com/forum/viewforum.ph...
http://www.lotuselancentral.com/forum/viewtopic.ph...

As you'll see there are at least three under-25s who have Elans.

Thanks

Looks like Firebond might be a good bet. Footman James seem to have good premiums, but poor agreements (doesn't cover vandalism after 22:30hrs - not good IMO. Classic Line and Elephant seem worth a shot too.

Firebond recommend Zenith - same premium as my old 924. Great stuff!
