Series 1 Elise Imobiliser

Since the rain this morning when our 1998 Elise got absolutly soaked we have been unable to start it. It is fitted with the standard imobiliser, the one with the unit that you touch onto the steering column unit. When we try to start we are getting the ignition lights but no reaction from the starter motor, the battery is fine. Is it possible to bypass the imobiliser to enable us to start the car?
