1972? Which sort of Europa - it could have been an S2 or a Twin Cam that year.
If it's a S2 with the Renault engine it will have a Renault 16's 336 transmission, as will the early Twin Cams.
Later Twinks (I think) had the 352 box which carried over to the 4 speed Specials.
The 5 speed Specials had the 365, but these are much later than 1972.
If any of this is wrong I'm sure my bro will be on here to correct it when he's back from LeMans (and no doubt on the phone giving me abuse for it!! )
HTH,
Jeremy.

Tiswass, if it is definitely a '72 and a Twin Cam then it will most likely have a 352 or 365, easiest way to tell is to see where the gear change enters the box and rear chassis cross member/gearbox mount shape, a 336 will enter from the passenger side and the cross member is a V shape with big single central mounting, for both 352 and 365 the change enters from the rear and the rear cross member is a flattened V with 2 smaller mounts - to then tell these 2 apart you then need to check the pressed member bolted to the box itself that the two rubber mounts attach to, 352 is rectangular and 365 is rectangular with a big V bitten out of the top edge to clear the 5th gear detent assy (I think it's the detent it clears - I'm doing this from memory).
If you're really lucky the 'box may still have the small ally disc attached that tells you but these usually have fallen off !
If you need any more help I'll start scanning parts/wsm
