you must know everything about cars

Ask some of the mx5 boys at mx5oc.co.uk who have been driving at silverstone & donny this year and have been kitted out with 240bhp turbo charged engines if the 5 is a hair dressors car and I think you'll get a different answer.
If your still unsure your welcome to join us on the track at our next meeting and find out for yourself.

I'm with you on this Bonce...
They are just tottaly different and even if the MX-5 look passingly like a characatured "Emma Peal" Elan, it breaks the first commandment in the chapman bible:
Minimal weight.
The Mazda is simply not made of the right stuff.
The Mazda is and always was a roadster (even says so on the podgey bum of the import Eunoses), and there are plenty of those kicking around with 240+bhp before selotaping a lagre hairdryer "Chassis Stylee" to the engine block.
Alfa spider, 360 spider even, but those are manly haidressers' cars...
...not that there's anything wrong with girly hair dressers, they're usually damned fit!
Mouse.

deary me...so a new member posts up here because someone thought that owning an elise made them a bit cleverer than an MX-5 owner - and put it in writing...and instead of villyfying the elise owner you back him up?!!
Oh dear.
A 240bhp prepped MX-5 will murder a standard elise round a track for a lot less money. Oh, hang on, of course a standard mx-5 isn't as good as a standard elise so you were all right
Im with Anderson on this one....if you dont want to p*ss peoople off, dont try and knock their cars without knowing anythign about it first.

Nightmare, if someone's going to post a "your car's not as good as you think" message on a car marque's forum where the majority of people who read it will be enthusiasts of said marque and therefore want to defend it, what kind of response do you expect?
Especially seeing as they've obviously gone to some considerable effort in order to do so: find car details on an infrequent gasser; take offence to said details; create an account to set the record straight; post your feelings in a somewhat confrontational manner without bothering to introduce yourself... doesn't look good does it?
It's just a bit of typical hairdresser slagging off fun so lighten up will you? It's just the way it is in the world of cars: TVR and Ferrari drivers call Porsche drivers hairdressers, Lotus drivers call MGF and MX5 drivers hairdressers and Caterham Seven drivers call EVERYBODY else hairdressing shandy drinking wooftahs, especially Elise drivers! It's all to do with the perceived hardness of one's car/marque and nothing whatsoever to do with performance on track - where usually it's down to driver ability anyway, not the number of horses pushing the back wheels.
I like the MX5, I happen to think it's a great car. But I don't think it's better than my Elise, or I'd drive an MX5 and not an Elise, wouldn't I! And for gawd's sake, realise that everyone has different values that makes one car 'better' than another.

Guess you're right...I think its partly knee-jerk from having read the 'elise vs porsche' thread on the british cars thread which just made elise owners out to be a bunch of spolit, mewling daddy-funded wazzocks.
Whilst I agree that its light-hearted banter for regular members, it will just drive newcomers away...and again I dont think this guy DID say 'my cars best' he was objecting to that being said by an elise owner.....

You can't anything sarcastic on here with upsetting people lately, I dunno!
Like Bonce says, everybody's paramteters for what make a car great/special are all relative to their life style and to a great extent on the car you own.
If I had and MX-5 I would deffend it too. It is certainly not indeffencible, but as a hard bitten CR-X owner I am obliged to feel, along with the MR-2, the weeny roadster can only be seen as Twink's Nemisis, in a friendly kind of way of course.
As far as I'm concerned the most offencive comment that has been posted so far was...
"...not the number of horses pushing the back wheels."
