Here`s a wide ball for you. Does anyone know if Colin Chapman had a Range Rover in the mid 70`s?

I am doing some research on the subject and any info would be appreciated.

The books I have on the Great Man, only mention Large Fords,vauxhalls and his "beloved" Mercedes. No mention of a Rangie

It wouldn't surprise me, though... he built his own country 'manor' house and he did like to play the Country Squire a little bit, so it would have fitted his image quite well.

You could always try contacting Clive Chapman by e-mailing Classic Team Lotus, to see if he remembers... from the couple of times I've met him, he's a really nice chap, so you may get a response!

There is a picture of Colin in his Biography Book (The man and his cars) where he hands the keys of a new Elite (70's) to Ronnie Petrerson and there is a Rangie in the background. I believe that the caption says it is his.

I dont think you can see the reg in the picture but I'll check. It's a;sp a black & white picture so no colour either..

Yes Colin had a Range Rover for a short while before passing it on to my dad. I thought it was pale blue metallic but after speaking to dad tonite he told me it was dark green. Can't for the life of me remember the reg number. May have a picture in the collection somewhere. Anyway. Yes he definately had one for a while.

His favorite car though was his Merc, which he used day by day (and repaired at the factory regularly as he used his cars well!! (He ground the sump off 4 times before Lotus reinforced it!!)
