Having just seen this thread I just thought I'd quickly clarify something. Am I right in thinking that the pre-cat S1 M100 Elan has hardened valve seats and can therefore happily run on unleaded? I'm hoping so as we've been running it on 97RON Super Unleaded or Optimax (depending on availability) ever since we bought it off Laurence.

I ran my 90's M100 Elan (it was s1 no cat) on unleaded in fact I had a label in the winscreen saying ONLY to run it in 95 RON and not super unleaded.

No worries Jon, unleaded is absolutely fine. I used to add lead replacement/octane booster to standard unleaded (left it in the boot for you) because it seemed to improve response. However, Optimax would be my choice now. Laurence
