Racing Your Elise/Exige/340R
Discussion
Hi everyone,
The Lotus Roadsport Series are looking for more lotus owners to take the next step and race their cars throughout the uk. The series is conducted on a friendly basis and cars ranging from Eclats to full blown motorsport elises compete equally as points scoring is equalised by a classing system. This means everyone has a good chance of winning the championship!
My fellow drivers and I have agreed a cut price car preparation price with several well respected lotus motorsport preparation outfits, so you can get racing your lotus for less than previously!
The rules, race dates and other info is available on the following website - www.heritageracingsupport.com - following the heritage racing support option then click on 'lotus roadsport'
I hope to hear from you soon, and see you whizzing around in qualifying in the not to distant future!

I've looked into this. £45 gets you a Go Racing pack. Then you need a medical- circa £50. Course should cost in the region of £200 apparently to get your B licence. Roll bar (quite discrete having examined a car that had it done) is apparently £600ish plus fitting (how much is that?) and I can't imagine the fire extinguisher or isolation switch should cost too much? So for just over a grand, can go racing.
I would guess you are looking at a set of tyres for each meeting though (how long are the races and how much tracktime do you get over the weekend?) And how much are race entry fees - I note there is a registration fee of £195 for the series.

errrr, yeah - could be a bit more helpful! All you need is a rollcage, fire extinguisher and electric isolation switch - shouldn't cost much more than a grand as far as I'm aware. If you want to improve the performance, thats up to you. I'm not sure this championship is going ahead anyway as the website has not been updated from what were supposed to be earlier rounds and the organisers haven't repsonded to my queries I sent by e-mail earlier this week.
OK,
for an Elise, the basics are:
Roll cage (AFAIK, only the safety devices one is RAC certified)
Drivers seat (need RAC/FIA approved one)
Harnesses (need RAC/FIA approved ones)
Seat floor mounting plates
Fire system (min 3.5L plumbed in)
Battery cut-out
Rear tow point
other things that are in a grey area are:
Charcoal canister removal (and it's pipework)
Catch tank
Then things that you Really should do:
Brake hoses
toe links
engine mounts
inertial-switch by-pass
Cat by-pass (fire risk)
Then your into performance enhancments, and this list is endless....
Now, you could do all this on the cheap, but I bet it will still cost you the best part of £2K just in bit's, and unless you are really compedant, you going to have to pay somebody a good wack to do it for you.
I am not trying to put you off, just make you realise what your talking about, racing an Elise is NOT cheap and anybody that say's it is either has a different perspective on what cheap is, or is trying to sell you something!
