I've had my elise now a couple of months. It only seems to rev to about 5500 rpm and then runs out of power. surely it should rev a lot higher than this, i was thinkinh about 7000rpm maybe. I might be wrong but please advise if I'm not and to the probable cause. Help!

Paul,

Not too sure what the problem might be, but try re-posting on the Elise/Exige forum, you might get a better response.

Is it actually hitting the rev limiter, or does it just start to feel a bit wooly and slow to rev beyond 5,500rpm?

IIRC, the rev limiter on the standard S1 Elise should cut in at about 6,750rpm, so if yours is stepping in at 5,500rpm, then either there is an engine management/rev limiter fault or (possibly more likely!) the tacho is under-reading.

I'f it's just a bit reluctant to pull beyond 5,500rpm, then plugs or leads would be the first suspects.

Thanks sam, I think i need to change the plugs and leads anyway as there seems to be a fault with it starting lately.
