Elan M100's, any opinions, good or bad...
Discussion
Hi lotus folks,
I don't know anything about these cars at all. I'm after something different, and have posted on various forums re possibilities (I'm not a wannabe nutjob, honest)
I have had a great range of tvr, from wedges, S3C, to currently a chimaera.
I'm looking at an older alfa spider, porsche 944 turbo's, and today an mx5 absolutely amazed me at how good it really was for real world driving and hooning.
However, I have never owned a lotus, and have always liked the rather stumpy Isuzu engined elans.
They are within budget, I have had a gander on google, there don't seem to be raving reviews on them, but I appreciate that's a personal thing.
I bet being a lotus they go round corners fabulously, but are they short of poke?
I have no knowledge on them at all, but know a fair amount about tvr's which is a fat lot of good in here!!
Anyway, all advice appreciated.
Mike.

In a nutshell Mike.... Not your cup of tea!
Reliable, mechanically robust and rapid, but 4 cylinders and awesome Front wheel drive handling make for lack seat of the pants excitment
Man of your talents mike needs a cheapy 911 to fettle!

Indeed, I would love a 911, but they are just that little bit out of reach.
Even that brown one on ph.

Bloody 'ell phil, you have an eye for this lark.
Allowing for the fact is going to need work sounds a tiny bit expensive to me......I can see it now resplendant in white with red Carrera decals and red fuche wheel centres Clubsport Style

We were looking to buy an M100 last year. It was going to be our toy car plus my everyday car, but we decided we wanted a proper weekend toy car and bought an Elise instead plus a Hyundai Accent as my daily driver (it cost us the princely sum of £800 for the Accent!).
Having now got the Elise, I really don't think we'd have half as much fun in the Elan and I certainly don't think it's a plaything. Having said that, I've been looking at them again today at Donington and have decided that I'll probably get rid of the Accent eventually and have an Elan as my A-Zer.
