Huge Lotus meeting planned

Head to Maidstone for biggest-ever link-up

Lotus Exige
Lotus Exige
Lotus dealer Lipscomb is to attempt a Guinness world record for the largest parade of Lotus cars ever.

It's to be held on Sunday 28 January 2007 at Brands Hatch. And naturally enough, Libscomb doesn't plan to do this with its own cars -- it needs your help. There's a hog breakfast as an added incentive.

So if you and your Lotus want to get involved in the challenge then register via the link below.

All cars will meet at the dealership in Aylesford near Maidstone, Kent, at 9am for breakfast. Cars will then drive down in convoy to Brands for the record attempt.

Not sure if it is official yet but the TVR one cleared 400 comfortably.

I'm sure there are more Lotus' around than TVRs so they should be able to beat that.

Would be a good bit of British competition to have the two marques compete at the same event?

Lotus should throw down the gauntlet. A spot of inter-marque rivalry, dodgy burgers and a beer or two would make for a good day.

Largest parade of BMW coupe cars was 107 in 2004, beaten by Ferrari that year with 125. The prancing horse links to 208 horse drawn vehicles in the same year, which, in turn were beaten by the Ferrari stable with 220 Fiat 126s, again in 2004. Largest parade was 249 Mazda MX-5s in 2005 (vague lotus connection). Interestingly in 2004 83 tow trucks met up also but I suspect this was as a direct result of 220 fiats being in one place.

As well as the Esprit factory visit there is already an annual lotus parade which passes through the Stelvio Pass over ten days. Difficult to find actual numbers but around a hundred is a fair bet. If 100 Elise owners can give up ten days surely that means lotus owners can smash the records set by other marques. Looks like they are guaranteed a record anyway as they seem to be marque specific, which in my view is a little bit gay.

I am sure there are enough members on this site lucky enough to have a lotus to get the real record. Appreciated, it is a marketing stunt for Lipscomb Lotus but the Lotus in general will benefit. With the apparent demise of the real TVR we need to support British (ish) manufacturers.

The currently accepted (yet to be ratified) count of TVRs at London Thunder was 479.

SELOC did this at the brunty or bust event in 2004 not sure what the outcome was or numbers?

Is the dealer giving anything to charity etc in view of the publicity etc?

The paperwork is done bar just one vital letter that I chase intermittently but struggling to get, so the final report bundle still hasnt gone into GWR yet. As for numbers, it depends which of the 3 laps GWR accept, 120 something on the third with no gaps > 2 car lengths, or 174 on the first (with a couple of gaps).

There was a record for 420 Rolls Royces and there was footage on the GWR website back when we we're working on the Seloc/BoB attemot, but that doesnt seem to appear on the website at the mo. Dunno whether the GWR site only contains a subset of all the records, 420 RR's definitely used to exist!

there were significantly more TVRs than that at London Thunder, but only the ones at the Ace Cafe were counted...

Whilst I generally support all British marques; TVR, Morgan, Lotus, Marcos etc. this effort does appear to be simply a publicity stunt by Lipscums. The dealer may or may not gather enough interest to get around 500 Lotus' at Brands (actually I doubt it because it needs more than the offer of a free bacon buttie to get people motivated) but either way it'll not match the sights and sounds of 6-700 TVRs descending on Parliament Square. TVR Thunder was arranged as a display of support and thanks for the TVR workers who built our cars, with them now redundant it does seem to be in somewhat bad taste for a Lotus dealer to jump on the bandwagon so soon after TVR's demise. scratchchin

Business is business. If it increases the interest & sales in the marque then that's got to be positive in my opinion.
There is a fee of £5 per car, which Lipscomb are donating to the Kent Air Ambulance. So all in all it is looking like a good day outthumbup

Damn it, if I wasn't going to be waking up with a hang over in the midlands somewhere, I'd have been there!

Oh, and as for the "passion" the "reason" the "dedication".....don't be so bloomin' wet. Of course it's a publicity stunt. Or, because they're not doing it for the 'honour' is no car marque ever allowed to do it again since the demise of TVR?

We aren't doing it as publicity stunt, we are a new dealer getting in with the Lotus community and hopefully everyone will have a fun day out and at the same time we can hopefully raise some money for the Kent Air Ambulance, a charity that is close to our company as a member of our staff recently had an accident that required the need for the Air Ambulance.

People seeing this as an insult to the workers of TVR are gravely wrong!

So TVR have the monopoly on parades then? Anyway, we are going for a Lotus parade record not TVR! Guiness World Records don't recognise any attempt by TVR anyway.
