Elise 111s Brakes
Discussion
I had a test drive in a 111s (2004) the brakes seemed a bit odd, like there is very litte servo assistnce. The owner said that he didnt notice it. Is this how they are? I drive a Civic Type R at the moment and that has ABS and have never driven a car without ABS, so I dont know if the brakes are a bit iffy or if its the lack of ABS.

Just a wild guess, but I think you might find that it's because the car doesn't have a servo.
Only the Toyota engined Elises (111R, Exige 2 and new Elise S) have servo'd brakes.

Yes, it's how they are. You do acclimatise to unservo'd brakes very quickly. I used to be able to step out of my very over-servo'd (and Emergency Brake Assist) Toyota Avensis company barge into the Elise an not even notice the lack of assistance on the brakes... it was just part of the 'package' that makes the Elise feel so diffent, along with the ultra-sensitive steering, low seating position, noises and nasty gearchange.

It's the lack of servo rather than the lack of ABS that makes the pedal feel a bit 'dead' at first. ABS doesn't feel any different to any other servo'd brake system until the ABS actually activates to stop the wheels locking (at which point you will feel the brake pedal pulsing under your foot).
FWIIW, once you are used to it, you will find that unservo'd brakes make heel-and-toe gearchanges much easier to modulate.
