I'm trying to decide what to replace my Mini with and have a fairly eclectic short(ish) list of cars, top of which is an Elise. However, it needs to be vaguely practical and I'm not really sure how the Lotus stacks up with this!

I'll be looking at an earlyish S1 if that makes a difference....

Does anyone have some piccies of the boot and how big it is, can you get a rack to mount on the bootlid/engine cover to put a tent or similar on?

The other options are a new MX5, a new Alfa 147, new Fiesta ST and the sensible options of a Grande Punto JTD Dynamic or a nearly new BMW 118d, plus whatever else I decide I like in the next 15 minutes!

It will be my main car, although we also have an 04 plate Fiat Panda that can be used if I need (a little bit) more space!

Help me please!!!!!

Boot is surprisingly large, but shape & opening means its best to work with soft bags etc.
Will try to get you some pics, none at hand right now.

I know plenty of people who have done trips of up to a few weeks with two people who have coped ok, you have to pack smart though.

You can get luggage racks, a few variations. Mine was cheap (<200?). It has small plates bolted to the body up near the base of the rear window (polished, looks very tidy) and it hinges from that point so you can still open the boot. Has big suckers on the body down back.

I've seen people using it with various mounts to take anything from a big case to a mountain bike. I took my Ikea furnature home looking like the worlds biggest & ugliest rear wing.

Racks not suitable for Series 2 due to the lighter (thinner) construction of the clams.

Will get you some pics of the rack and contact info.
