Giz some advice pleeeeeeeeeease !!!
Discussion
Could you help me please, The dilema is s1 or s2 ?????
I really really really really really lurve the styling of the s2 elise but as Im going to buy second hand is it worth forking out the extra wonga for the s2?
I recently got taken out in an s1 and loved every minute.. to be honest I really couldn't fault it and for around the 10k mark (give or take a few)seems a real steal.
The s1 owner said its more of a drivers car than the s2 !?
Or do I really scare the finances into an 18k s2 submission (and that is really pushing it !!!) ??
Bearing in mind I have a seperate stash for insurance and a road angel what do I do? Lazer blue just looks so fine !
Any advice would be very much appreciated
cheers Noel

Test drive as many variants as you can and then make your decision, they're all great cars.
You'll get a better response if you post on the Elise/Exige/340R forum but to be honest 20 people will tell you the S1 is great and another 20 will say the same for the S2. It's all down to personal preference.

Ill give the elise forum a blast thanks kevin
If you're bothered about the roof then it's an S2 for you.
Not sure how the short roof version is more waterproof, and can't save more than 10 secs over the long-tailed roof.
The S1 roof is quite complicated, however there really is no difference between the short and long roof on the S2. (They are the same design except the long roof has a flap either side which clips and locks into the rear butress and the short roof doesn't!)Try them all and discover the truth for yourself.
Regardless of anything I have said, the car was designed without a roof, so buy a hat!!!
S1 v S2. Entirely subjective. S1 more focused?! well it had wider front tyres and people sent them backwards into hedges, so Lotus put narrower ones on which gave the car a bias to understeer rather than oversteer. All cars got heavier over time MMC S1 the lightest 111R the heaviest. Very little difference between majority of S1s and early S2's. S2s infinitely better built and much better ride due to being fitted with purpose designed Bilstein's rather than off-the-shelf Koni's. A well sorted S1, where all the niggles have ironed out, meticulously maintained with Bilstein's fitted, could be a very difficult package to beat at the right price.
Drive as many as you can, and be aware that it is not so much the model or variant you choose as the car itself!!
Ignore the subjective drivel and go drive instead.

cheers neil, after taking all advice on board i have decided that an s2111 will be the one for me (im slightly in love with the alloys and really really like lazer blue)
got 14k to spend at the mo including insurance, so i think i'll save up for a few more months which should knock it over 16k EXCITEMENTARAMA !
