New Enigine or Else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
How happy will you be now when a VX220 turbo goes sailing past :-( and only costing (£26,000). I have sold my elise and have been looking at a S2 or TVR, but for £26000 and faster than a Elise why not a VX220, its still has a Elise Chassis. I know that many of you will disagree with my views, but Lotus have had years to find a replacement for the K Series engine. PLEASE MAKE A ENGINE REPLACEMENT NOW !!!!!! i have heard all the rumours about a V6, but they are just RUMOURS!!!

Thanks for advise Clanger, but you have to agree Lotus needs a more powerful power unit. Whats so wrong with a VX (apart from the name) its £10,000 cheaper than a 190 and just a quick. I have owned an Elise and i am a Lotus fan, but come on Lotus is getting left behind by Vauxhall of all people.
Kind of get the feeling that Lotus are starting to act like a large manufacturer i.e. Proton - taking ages to do anything like bring out a new vehicle or re-engine a current model.
Noble Moy seem to get new projects off the ground in no time and at great success - when you look at what happened with M250 it makes you wonder what's going on at Lotus. If Noble can do it why cant Lotus?

'Cause Lotus isn't the company it once was: it once had a vision at each new stage. What is there today? No visionary marnager/owner, just expertise that is being sold of and laid off every year.
I think TVR is the future hope of all British prestige marques. They already blow Lotus away in range of products, design appeal, in house component build, and options. And you might notice their prices are on the rise whereas Lotus are falling.
However, for those wanting more from their Elise, there is a after market Turbo option to take you to 200bhp plus, see Turbo Technics. I don't own Elise so can't say whether it's worth it.

Hi Nicholas
But i can recall reading some place on PH that the reliability suffers with these conversions , i think with the VX you will get a trust worthy 200bhp ok the Elise maybe looks better(still not sure on that) and the tests on the VX suggest a damn fine handeling car
who cares u still have warranty with VX than Lotus. With VX they have the mass manufacture mentality, and Lotus are still in the dark ages. Unless they develope then u will all own a 1996-98 drivers classic, and the rest of use will be having fun :-) and if u dont agree with this then good luck.
Ps i love lotus but not unless they devlope, and nor should u unless u have a brain or why would u buy an elise in the first place????

Turbo Technics actually give you a 1 yr warranty (extendable too) with their conversions. So for £33K you can have a brand new S2 with 230bhp (prob more like 250bhp with a bit of mapping if Jas's car is anyting to go buy!)AND a warranty. I know its stil more expensive than the VX, but it is another option to a Sport190

Totally agree - when you look at the manufacturers who appear to be relatively strong; TVR, Morgan, Caterham and more recently Noble Moy, they all have one thing in common - strong leadership. They've all got a guy at the top willing to stick his neck out, make decisions and drive the company. There is no room for committees in the sports car industry - companies need to be flexible and react quickly.
Sweden1 - your posts don't seem to recognise the fact that the VX was originally developed by Lotus for Vauxhall, the VXTurbo has been developed by Lotus and Lotus actually build the VX alongside the Elise on a parallel production line under the same roof.
I am certain that if GM were not satisfied by the quality of the engineering and production facilities at Hethel they would never have signed the contract in the first place. Give them a break!
Remember they kept the Elise S2 completely under wraps whilst the VX was developed. Everyone thought they had shot themselves in the foot when Vauxhall launched the VX - almost immediately they said oh, by the way, heres a new version of the Elise, even better than the original. It would be great to think they could do it again. We can all fantasise about the V6 Elise being launched just after the VXTurbo hits the road. Nice to dream........

Turbo Technics main product range for the Elise is a Supercharger and NOT a turbo. I've driven their demonstrator and my S2 is going in this weekend for the 230bhp upgrade.
With this upgrade you don't need to rev it like the Lotus VHPD sport 190 as the torque is boosted throughout the rev range. It adds very little weight to the car. But the biggest two reasons why I chose this upgrade is the car remains easy to drive on the road (where it spends 95% of its time) with the wide torque band and there is none of the problems associated with Turbos (lag, poor throttle response, extra heat etc). The demonstrator just felt like a normally aspirated 3 litre Elise without the weight of a big engine. If you have an Elise, S1 or S2, take their demonstrator for a drive - you will not be disappointed.
As far as reliability goes most of the members of the Yarhoo Turbo Technics group members seem very happy with their upgrade. The company has done over 200 cars now and the product has matured. Normally aspirated engine upgrades get more power through better breathing and revving higher which puts more strain on the engine.
I ordered my S2 when all the dealers were saying that there would never be an S2 with the VVC engine. The week after I picked up the car the S2 111S was being road tested by the mags. The trade in price was the same as the TT190 upgrade so the choice between 156bhp and 190bhp was easy.
