Afternoon all,

After seeing one recently an old flame i had for the Elan S2 has been reignited.

I'm now looking at seriously buying one, around the £8k tops mark.

What i'm after is some info on the S2 Turbo, like power, torque, reliability, spec, that sort of thing.

Does anyone have said info, or know where i can get it?

I would like to go for an S2, as i believe they were far superior in terms of driving and quality.

I could be wrong though!

Thanks

Strangled by a catalytic converter and down on power as a result, heavier, larger unsprung mass due to 16" wheels rather than the SE's 15" wheels. Not sure how that makes them superior.

The S2 does have a more continent hood though, I'll give you that.

Well thats told me JonB!

I'm still learning about the M100, so if thats the case i may go for an S1 if they're much better. I'm not after pose value or cache, i want the best handling, sweetest feeling Elan.

I will admit i'm not a fan of the orginal wheels though, but these are easily replaced by aftermarket designs (of the same size, obviously).

S1 had a 165bhp and were a bit lighter the S2 has 155bhp and is a bit heavier it's a little slower as a result, you can easily upgrade the power later if you feel the need, S2 has the larger wheels, build quality is a bit better too from what i've read, to be honest i would by on condition rather than S1 vs S2 unless you really have a penchant for one or the other

check out this site its got everything you could possible want to know, and a forum full of owners who will no doubt be able to anwser all your questions, i was thinking of buying an elan myself at one point but got an excel instead (loved the wedge like styling) and as i can only have one car at the moment that kinda sealed the deal on the excel for me (4 seats), but open top motoring was cenrtainly tempting & the elan has a great reputation, hence the high second hand values for a car 15 odd years old, it was around 19 k new and a nice well looked after one will cost you around 8500K, i saw cars at 10k+ at dealers so thats around 50% depreciation in 15 years not bad at all!.

Had my SE for nearing 4 years, a superb car and still puts a massive grin on my chops!

The S2 has options like air con and bigger wheels. In some ways you can say it is more refined. However, it is slightly slower and for some reason they generally cost more. Wheels of course can be changed and air con IMO is not required. Mileage is not something to really concern about either.

If you need help in finding an M100 let me know. I know of a Blue half leather interior for sale and a wonderful red example which has recently been treated to re-spray, new hoses and new hood.

Good luck!

I have an S2 which will soon be for sale (only use it when the 993 is off the road). I'll put it in the classifieds once I have time.

Ah, well, if we're dropping subtle hints on Elans for sale now and in the future, then my wife's very tidy SE Turbo is for sale in the classifieds right now.
