how much bhp loss over the years would a 89 se turbo lose
Discussion
it was on top gear or fifth gear a little while back about how old sports cars didnt have no where near the bhp the book said cause of wear and tear. my 89 turbo se has 265 bhp on the book its got 64000 miles and a full lotus service history anyone like to hazard a guess what the actual bhp is before i get a rolling road test to find out
Rob, I think we are talking about an Esprit Turbo SE, in which case it ought to make 165bhp even if you took the turbo off!
I'd guess about 240 bhp, but it will depend on how well the engine has been maintained and tuned rather than its age and mileage. Properly looked after, provided there is no loss of compression due to wear, engines can actually make more power after they have done a few miles, due to reduced internal friction. New injectors can make a big difference, though - spray patterns deteriorate significantly with mileage.
