Help needed!!

I have a 2003 Elise 111s. Recently some witch craft seems to have taken place. Last week I put the key in the ignition and my SHURLOK instrument panel became scrambled. The speedo is now showing I am doing 85mph when i am stationery, and the mileage has jumped from 23.5k to an impressive 489k. Also when turning off the ignition, the rev counter rotates completly clockwise until it reaches it's end stop, turning the ignition back on and the rev counter comes back round again (weird)

I have tried disconecting the battery, checked the connections in the back of the unit, I even had an auto electrician look @ it last friday. So the earth etc is OK.

I have phoned Lotus, and they basically say bring it in (sounds like you need the clocks changed), which is a 240mile round trip for me.

I really want to avoid changing the clocks which will mess up the mileage etc.

Can anyone suggest an alternative means of dealing with this problem?, has anyone experienced this type of thing before??

Any feedback/advise would be much appreciated.

Ps I have had this car for almost 2 years with no problems, but this one has done my nut in!!

Had similar problem with 111r but all you need to do is hold in the button on the right hand side of the steering column and start the engine. This should reset your speedo [and in my case the rev counter to zero]. Problem can be caused by low battery.

Cheers Ken

I had some problems with LCD display - scrolling random characters, then all disappearing, reappearing but mileage etc always OK. Finally display vanished completely 4 weeks ago. Send it in, they said... Voltage regulator...

However, sorted it over weekend: completely disassembled bipod and then disassembled Shurlok unit. There are two PCBs inside - big one and piggyback for LCD. Issue is that the feedthrough pins from main to LCD PCB have only faintest chance of electically connecting since dimensioning is way out. Reassembled carefully and having taken clear plastic cover over front, was able to put needles back on the spindles in the right place. Needles are not fixed on spindle - they almost float on them... Of course, it claims you invalidate the warranty if you do this but it is out of warranty anyway...

BTW Car drives OK without the Shurlok fitted. Not sure where the mileage is stored (in Shurlok or black box). Did you disconnect/reconnect the bipod itself?

Thanks to everyone for the feed back, it is much appreciated. I have had new clocks fitted and everything is as it should be now. I'm not really sure what the problem was or what caused it, someone said it could have been a corrupt eprom.

Sorted now though.

Thanks again!!!!
