Anyone running one as their daily hack? Looking for a more interesting 'sensible' car as an alternative to my oil burner.

mines my only car although i dont drive it everyday, like any old car (the newest ones are like 14 years old!) its going to need more looking after, but in my one an half years of ownership its yet to leave me stranded, although its needed a new exhaust, tryes, distributer, and now thermal valve and maybe an new temp sender not sure on that one yet, its a good car i like driving it, it looks great, is pretty comfy and goes well if you give it some revs, as long as your prepared to cover running costs that will probably average 1000 to 1500 a year you'l be happy

I ran an Excel as a daily car for about 5 years and it was absolutely fine. It was properly serviced and bar a few 'normal' things it never let me down.

It's got a decent sized boot for the type of car and you can fit a couple of kids in the back reasionably easily. At a push you can get small adults
in the back as well.

It's often been referred to as the most reliable Lotus ever built, probably for good reason.

A highly under-rated car IMHO.

Thanks Leszek - I'm already convinced its a viable motor, just holding out for a decent 'celebration' to come up!

Cars from that era mark the point where Lotuses were properly built and generally reliable if not neglected. The catch was that by that time the Eclat/Esprit family had already earned a bad name and it took many years before the poor reputation diminished. These cars fit my general rule of thumb with Lotuses - the more Toyota bits in the car the better it is!
