I just had an awful thought. Is the Excel capable of running on Unleaded? I have not started it up yet and as it is quite old (1985) will I find a problem?

Phew, thanks It is amazing you forget about these things when it was a major talking point around that era.

I've not heard any sign of pinking on normal unleaded, but I put a tankful of optimax through it every 1000 miles or so (for no scientific reason - the car doesn't run any different on it!)

I run mine mainly on standard unleaded, but put the odd supper tank in now and again.

I had an Excel for 5 years a few years ago and ran it on unleaded with absolutely no problems - I was advised by a reputable specialist that this was OK. I did tend to use Optimax or equivalent Super Unleaded fuel.
