Lotus Type 40
Digging about for history with one of the rarer racers
Discussion
I've only just stuck a comment button on this article so I thought I'd include some of the correspondance I've received regarding the car.
Very interesting pics....It's hard to tell that this could have been one of the original 40's. I got a chance to see Clark drive the 30 at Riverside in 1964. Met him after the race and got his autograph, which I have to this day. My memory is that Clark drove the 40 at Riverside again in 65 and finished 2nd or 3rd. Do you know why someone would want to make this thing into a coupe???? Up until a few months ago, there was a 30 that was being stored at Sears Point Raceway. It belongs to a Japanese business man who would come over every year or so to drive it. It left a few months ago to Japan. Very beautiful car, not real crazy about the shade of green it was painted, but a nice car none the less.
We have the Lotus 40 featured on your website at our race shop here in
Florida, we are trying to document the car and have spoken to Dick Hutcherson
and AJ Foyt to see if it is indeed the real thing, unfortunateley nobody can
really tell.
After speaking to Lee Hollman , he said that Hollman Moody had little to do
with the car , it was at their shop but purely for prep work prior to racing
and had little to do with its development .
The car at the moment has a dummy 289 cobra motor with a DS25 transmission
and has been thrown in for show , the tecalamit injection system came with
the car but needs refurbishing .
If you know of anybody who actually worked on the particular car featured in
the article I would appreciate some contact information, we really want to
get this car back on the track and to its former glory (without the roof).
Thankyou for your time
