Hi all

Took my 1987 Excel in today for it's MOT and it was driving fine, as it has been since I bought it 6 months ago.

It failed on several counts however, the most expensive sounding of which is that the front wheel bearing needs replacement and a brake pad has 'stuck' to the wheel.

Sounds expensive - should I be worried?

Being a Ford owner I have no place to comment on this but they dont sound that* serious....

If your that worried about money perhaps its time to get the toolkit out

i had that exact same thought when my exhaust broke and in my case the answer was a big yes, my wallet is still recovering from the savaging it has taken ...
in your case however i think you will escape the horror of a big minus number leaving the bank account, and avoid my expression which looked a little like this > after i added up my fitting and exhaust system invoices...
try lotusbits.com good source of secondhand parts, also lotusexcel.co.uk is a top site for info an excel related stuff its been down 2 weeks now but hopefull it will be restored soon.

Check sjportscars.co.uk for prices on the pads & bearings - look cheap enough.

Second hand in working condition £30 each. How Skint are you!
Who told you owning a Lotus would be cheap anyway? You want a cheap motor, buy a Vauxhall Nova!

Cheers all

Didn't think it would be cheap owning a Lotus but having just bought a new house and got married, was slightly concerned.... but didn't need to be. All the work done and a frest new MOT for under £300 - RESULT!

Used it as my wedding car and got some great shots in September - may post them somewhere if I can find anywhere to! Had to tell the Mrs off for putting too much of her left bumcheek on the front lamp!

Host them for free here http://photos.fotango.com/cgi-bin/ind then post them in this forum, I'm sure we'd all love to have a look.
