Track car to drive hillclimb next weekend

Lotus has announced that its new "Circuit Car" will make its first run at the oldest racing track in the world, the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, during the Centenary celebrations.

The Shelsley Walsh Centenary Festival Meeting is next weekend, Friday 19 to Sunday 21 August, with the Lotus car turning out for practice on the Friday ahead of its racing debut on the Sunday. Lotus' development head Tony Shute will be in the driving seat to demonstrate the new car's speed and handling.

Based on the Lotus Elise Aluminium chassis, the car has been specifically designed and engineered as a track day and club racing machine. Power is courtesy of a (much-rumoured) supercharged VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing with Lift - intelligent) engine, and is estimated to achieve the 0-100 mph sprint in a rapid nine seconds.

Shute said: "The "Circuit Car" adheres to Lotus' philosophy of performance through lightweight, and is sure to impress the spectators at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb Centenary Festival Meeting. To have the opportunity to launch our new car alongside examples of some of the world's finest racing vehicles is a real privilege."

What does a VIP ticket get you that a regular one doesn't?
