Has anyone got any thoughts on running PS4's on the rears of an Elise? They're about the same price as Yoko AD08RS's - just wondered if the PS4's might be better for road use?

Are they soft enough for the lack of weight?

When I was at Lotus I was chatting to one of the blokes that did tyre selection and development. He was very clear that the best tyre for any car is the one they deliver the current new cars on. He was of the opinion in this day and age that virtually every car is designed for a specific tyre or tyres and this is the only method you should use when selecting tyres for anything made in the last ten years.

It was a standing joke that they always got someone on the tours to ask what he thought of Tyre X on a Lotus because they were 'recommended by people online'. The guy lost his st every time. laugh

You pays your money, but I'm siding with the exceptionally qualified bloke who does it for a living.

Agreed, the Yokohamas are the right tyre. I asked as they're not very available at the moment but the PS4's are however given I can't really use the car I'm going to wait for the yokies.

That's fair enough as far as it goes, but subject to two caveats:
1) Better tyres (and other components) are being developed all the time and;
2) Manufacturers are driven by costs; and not always the costs that we see as consumers. Manufacturers will usually be negotiating substantial discounts with OEM suppliers. With a company of Lotus' reputation, that might be driven on the supplier's side by the 'halo effect' of being associated with them. And it's naive to think that Lotus - a company that has never been swimming in cash - wouldn't be influenced by the cost from the OEM supplier.

I don't think there's anyone alive (including the Lotus engineers who specified them) who would try to argue that the Pirelli tyres and Koni dampers that most S1 Elises were delivered with are anywhere close to being the best option for that car?

I have PS3s fitted on one set of wheels and advans on the other.

Reason I went for them was just the performance in poor weather compared to the advans, but I don;t feel as much through them, just like they don't quite flex as much

I got caught in biblical rain in my old AD08 shod Elise, was expecting to be heading for the hedge, but they coped really well which genuinely surprised me.
