Hi

I'm new here, and wanted to ask whether anyone has any knowledge about a car supposed to be made by Lotus technicians up in Spalding Lincolnshire. I've just come across one for sale, and it looks a fun car.

It is being advertised as a Lotus Evanti (not sure if the spelling is correct). It looks like a baby Elan on steroids, with flared arches and a boot flick. It is Open top, has a 1700 cc twin cam (maker not specified), was built in 1987, with the right aged plate, so probably from new bits. the dealer also reckons on it having Vauxhall discs.

I can't find anything about such a car on the web (searching for Avanti, Evanti, Eventi etc etc), so wanted to know whether anyone out there has a clue. It's going for about £7k, has only covered 39k miles and if it's any good, could be quite a bargain.

If anyone has a clue, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers

It`s Evante. I don`t know a massive about of detail but they had a Vegantune twin -cam (derivation of the Lotus twink`) and were, effectively, an updated Elan with a bit more grunt and a fat-boy interior. They were actually supposed to be pretty good but I haven`t got a clue if they still make them.

Try Vegantune Evante. I have a brochure somewhere... also a magazine article from the time (performance car I think it was).

What specs I have on it are here:

Thanks for this input - much appreciated. It certainly helps having the right spelling when searching for something, and the Vegantune link is definitely worth investigating. So cheers.

If anyone has direct knowledge of one, I'd love to hear from them.

Calling Vegantune "Lotus technicians" is stretching it very, very far though. They were Lotus appointed twin cam engine builders and rebuilders in the 70's before Lotus realised what a bag o shite they were and took the work back in house (for Caterham 7 work)

Unfortunately news of this was buried by "interested parties" and they carried on screwing up peoples engines for years to come. So, despite them being plugged by Club Lotus over the years they were ultimately proved to be bodgers just like an awful lot of companies in Lotus land.
