Hi guys, I'm currently looking to purchase an Elise, specifically a 1.8 S Club Racer so have been getting some insurance quotes.

I'm 32 and this will be a second car limited to around 6k miles PA. I have full NCD but do unfortunately have 3 points on my licence due to an SP30 last year. Previous experience has been in hot hatches with my current car being a Golf R.

The quotes so far are:

Liverpool Victoria - £750 to add onto my existing policy.

1Answer - £1300 includes 5 track days, £300 excess for the road and £3000 for track.

Adrian Flux - £2000 with a £3000 excess!

Greenlight - Will not quote due to lack of RWD experience

The issue seems to be that I have never owned a RWD car and a lack of garage.

Just wondering how this compares to others as they are higher than I expected to be honest. I assume / hope that after the first year I should see the quotes come down significantly?

How about buying a cheap e46 BMW and driving that for a few months? That will tick the RWD box.

Otherwise, Classicline gave me the best quote on my Evora.

It's not out of the question but I'd rather avoid the hassle of buying / selling another car.

I'll try classicline though and see how I get on - Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you used a price comparison site? I don't mean to be facetious but it's just a car.

Edit to add:
I'm 36 and used GoCompare who quoted me £248 for my Clio V6 and £360 for my Evora and not once was I asked if I had RWD experience

There's plenty of Lotus specialist insurers out there. Pop over to the Seloc forums and search for insurance, plenty of recommendations there.

I've used Henderson Taylor before and I'm currently insured with A-Plan in Thatcham.

My 220 Cup is insured through Aviva and they even cover my aftermarket exhaust.

Ok I'm 45 and paying £ roughly £400 a year. Think my excess is £700.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried a range of insurers now and the cheapest is still £750 for standard insurance. The specialists are all coming in around £1300 but do include up to 6 track days which is a bonus as I'd be purchasing this anyway. Looks like I'll just have to take the hit on the first year!

One specialist insurer missing from that lot-REIS. Give them a try-I’m a similar age to you and they’ve been great for me over the past few years.

Unfortunately the first year of owning one is quite expensive-apparently a lot of claims are made in the first year of ownership!

Thanks itcaptainslow, they are comparable on price to the other specialist insurers but came across to me as the most professional and easy to deal with so are likely to be the ones I go with.

Yup-they’re pretty reasonable however check their track day exclusions-I got refused cover for a single session at Silverstone on a PH Sunday Service because of some obscure reason about the organiser not being on the approved list. My protestations about it being marshalled by Silverstone themselves were swatted away.
