Hello!! I've just signed up to pistonheads because i'm currently very excited at owning my first performance car. In a couple of months I will be hoping to trade in my peugeot 306 for a mk1 elise.

Problem is i've just graduated from uni and am only 22.. so i suspect insurance will be a problem!

Any recommendations as to where the best place is to get a quote? And how much it is likely to be..

Best advice is probably...try everyone you can get hold of!

However, specialists include:
Adrian Flux
CCI/Egger Lawson
Autotorque
Esteem

Some of these may not quote for your age but worth a try, it's all down to circumstance, you never know...

Good luck and don't let premiums put you off, you only live once!

Cheers for the reply Kevin, will definitely check out your suggestions. Got quoted £1700 last night with Zenith… extortionate but at least it’s a start!

Just saw the picture of your motor, v.nice, taken at brands hatch if i’m not mistaken?

£1700? That's only about a third more than mine and I'm 10 years older! Teach me for living in London...

Cheers re the pic, Brands is my second home, so had to be done Check out the 106 Rallye pic as well for more of the circuit!

Cheers moles for the encouragement.

I did a trackday at brands with evoactive last year.. As i got ever so slightly sideways on paddock hill i realised all the hype about peugeot chassis'! Pic of my car on an autosolo with bristol motor club on my profile.

That was you! I was there, approaching Graham Hill in the Puma I owned then and saw you sliding at Paddock - nearly missed my braking point!

Came round Paddock gingerly on the next lap, expecting to see carnage, glad you made it through OK

Did suspect lift-off oversteer at the time...

After the session spoke to the guy that was following you - I think he may have been on the way to the toilet for a change of underwear

Jonathan,
I have just bought an S1 elise. Had major worries that it may cost me £1000+ because I was unaware that the no claims was tied to one car and I wanted to keep my existing machine. Ended up cancelling insurance on my current car and going no claims on that, all ready to transfer them onto the Elise. Called Footman James who said that with the 2 years I had from my old car the premium would be £608. They then went on to say that the Elise could be put on an agreed value classic policy for £520 and I would not have to use my no claims either. The only downer is that you are restricted to 4500miles a year. If you think you could manage that then I would strongly suggest this option, although I am not sure how much bearing your age will have. I am 36. Good luck dude. Oh by the way, you have to be a member of Club Lotus to get the deal at a cost of £25 ;-)

I am in the Same position as ‘Fastwelshman’, currently looking for an S1/S2 Elise, alas being 21 with 2Y NCB the quotes I’m getting are faintly ridiculous despite it being garaged in a safe postcode with limited mileage.

I already pay almost £1600 for a Mk1 Clio 172, and i somewhat naively thought it would be 'similar' or at least, not vastly more expensive to insure.
