The new issue of Autocar talks about the Esprit replacement and a new supercharged Exige.

I heard that the Esprit replacement had been scrapped very recently. I really really hope this isn't true but it was from what should be a reasonably reliable source.

Anyone else heard rumours to that effect?

Yes, I heard that a few weeks ago. I've got a deposit on one and my dealer hasn't told me anything though...

I heard that Lotus received insufficient interest and deposits to continue with the project

With no Elise S3 in the pipeline is this the begining of the end???

I must admit I hadn't checked, but I wasn't aware that they were taking deposits already. After the M250 debacle, I wouldn't put money down until I saw a car. Why Lotus would want to judge a car's worth by counting deposits before even a prototype is seen is beyond me.

Are you sure you're not making this up?

The Elise S3 is on track for the US by 2008/2009. It will be a fully Federalized car and require no waivers.

I can't see them NOT replacing the Esprit. Of course, if anybody wants to link to a press release, etc, I will be happy to read it...

Just what I was told by Miles at Fiberglass services who was very downbeat about all things lotus. Im not scare mongering, just thought it was a shame that there seems to be problems at lotus. Personnaly I would love to see a lotus supercar in development because in ten years I might just be able to afford a second hand one.
