I am looking to buy an Exige S3 and was wondering what the consensus on warranties is.
After 3 years will Lotus extend their warranty at a cost? Or is this possible if the warranty has lapsed with previous owner?
Any advice much appreciated,
Ed

No, Lotus don’t offer an extended warranty scheme.

Specific dealers might but these will be aftermarket warranties (often not worth the paper that they are written on. Most claims seem to be dismissed as ‘wear and tear’).

Thats why I was asking.

Really all I want to protect myself from is catastrophic engine failure or the supercharger breaking up.

If you bought new and had a problem after the initial 3 years, then you might be lucky and Lotus might contribute via goodwill. (A lot would depend on how the car had been driven - the ECU stores a considerable amount of parameters).

However, engine and/or SC failures are remarkably rare, especially if they’ve been ok for the first 3 years. It is a Toyota/Harrop combination after all.

I have decided to spend a bit more and get a younger car.
Funny how that always happens!

Any car over 3yrs old bought from a main Lotus dealer will usually come with a 12mth 3rd party warranty, this can be extended if you wish.
