Not wishing to break the rules of this forum this is just an enquiry asking the advice of experienced Pistonheaders.I have a very nice Grantura restoration nearing completion which I would love to exchange for a type 14 or 7 requiring work.Cars are always for sale or wanted ! Where is the best place to advertise for a exchange.

So you want to go from a TVR to a Lotus then?

Actually going back to a Lotus.I,m an old bod and love both marques.Over the years I have had many affairs with both.Still really can’t seperate what are the best attributes of these marvellous early cars.I personally think later models lost their way but that’s progress and the generation that grew up in the 80’s 90’s and 00’s would no doubt disagree. You can’t help who or what you fall in love with.

Can't imagine any old lotus owner wanting to swop for a TVR - chalk and cheese IMO

What a load of tosh. I’ve had both and equally fun in different ways. Doesn’t have to be either/or. I think if there’s any petrolhead in peoples veins they’d be able to appreciate both...

Well, I went from Lotus to TVR, but went back to Lotus again pretty damned sharpish, I can tell you. The crudity of the engineering that underpinned the TVR made my skin crawl, I'm afraid.

Rene did make clear he was expressing a personal opinion and FWIIW, I share it.

I was going to ask the same question. Just sold my TVR Tuscan that I loved owning but have to down size due to a house purchase. So have started looking for an s2 elise 111S, hoping I won't miss the power and noise of a TVR? I am expecting a great drivers car with great feel, giving an all together different driving pleasure.

Thinking of returning to an Excel after a number of TVR but the lack of a kick in the back is worrying.
Nice gearchange though

I couldn't choose so ended up with a +2 and a Griffith; love them both.

its a different approach:

Lotus = Small, light, small sized engines, no eyecatching gimmicks, lots of engineering into suspension
TVR = big, "heavy "(compared to lotus), loud, big engines, eyecatching design elements, far less engieneering work done into everything.

if you want a loud boyracer go for a TVR
if you want a well handling car, go for Lotus

Scalpel versus a sledgehammer imo.

As much as I adored my TVRs and have driven almost all the modern variants they are crude in many ways. I’d be surprised if many of them could stick with a half-well driven Elise or exige variant north of the 111r’s 190bhp.

Sense of occasion is massive with a TVR. However, the engineering of Lotus and the product itself is far more considered and that shows in the drivers seat.
