Fit lotus twincam head to xflow block
Discussion
The height of the cylinder block for the TC must be the same as the original block, or the timing cover won't fit. I think the xflow block is taller, thus you'll have a gap. These guys are the fountain of all knowledge re these engines, give them a call.

PS. Practical performance car magazine did an article over a few issues a while ago re a 2ltr version of this engine. See if the back issues are available.

You can get spacer plates and longer chains to deal with this.Burton power are OK, but they're more into Ford engines generally - the experts on the Twin Cam are QED.
..you will need Lotus pistons with valve cut outs to achieve the correct compression ratio and have the block decked - expensive at around £600 a set.
The block will need to be bored to suit the Lotus pistons - 83.5mm dia.
Yes, you will need a 6mm spacer from Burton or better still purchase the tall block front cover and if you do that you may as well get the cover with the cartridge water pump. That assumes you don't have a front cover and backplate.
It makes a nice muscular engine - longer stroke than a std LTC and 1700 capacity. If you go for Q420 cams nicer still but great care is needed to ensure no valve to piston contact with the lift of these cams.
It will make a lovely engine but expect to shell out quite a bit of cash to do it properly.
Be aware however that Equus will tell you off as the resulting engine will be 'impure'

The OP's profile suggests that it's going into a Lotus Cortina replica in any case.If it were going into the genuine article, it would indeed devalue it substantially - not least because it would render the car incorrect for historic racing.
I notice your living in the Manchester area .I agree with other replies QED & Burton are well respected but also a small family run business in Burnley,Component Engineering Twin Cam specialist did a superb job on a butchered engine I bought thinking it was the dogs b,s.Speak to Graham ( mention Baz from Rhyl he might give me a bit of discount on my next rebuild ) Their tel 01282 770978
