Hi all,

I thought this was the best forum to ask. Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move.

I'm interested in an Elise/VX220/Speedster and would welcome any information.

Here in Ireland, there isn't much choice when it comes to these cars, but a 2001 Speedster has come up for sale. It has the 2.2 n/a GM engine and I would plan to use it as my main car.

Are there any known issues? I would love to hear some experiences that others have had, any advice and of course suggestions.

Thanks,

John

I can't say I know all of the technical stuff but these are fantastic little cars - definitely just a cheaper Lotus. One of the good things is that they're starting to appreciate in value now because they're being recognised as a great driver's car and a modern classic, along with the design ageing very well. One thing definitely to check though is that it hasn't had any crash damage or anything along those lines.

The only other thing is using it as a daily driver is a bit of a big ask for most people, they're not the most comfortable of things plus people find them hard to get in and out of. (personally I'd say go for it if its a straight car)

Thanks for the reply.. Yes they do seem amazing cars, although I have never driven any variant.

I don't drive every day, usually only once or twice a week but for 100 mile plus journeys. (That could all change with summer evenings and one of these of course!) I used my Chimaera for daily duties a few years ago and found it fine. Appreciate these are lower cars with a bigger sill but I don't think it would bother me.
