Hot Elise Down Under

I am based in Sydney Australia, The weather was good today, and yesterday so i thought i would take the elise out for a spirt, while i popped in to a shop to get a drink down at the beach i left the car idleing and alas it seems the thermostat (i think) decided to stay closed, maybe through lack of use and i lost all my coolent beneath the car. I think i may have pooped a hose, maybe under the radiator. perhaps i have damaged the core. My question is i want to peruse under the radiator where the fluid is coming from. I do not have a manual. Is it easier to gain access from beneath the car after removing the pan or should i go in from the top?
