Considering purchasing a low mileage '88 Turbo Esprit. Just trying to get an idea what I am getting myself into in terms of maintenance. Were I to own care for 3 yrs, driving say 5K miles/yr (taking mileage up to approx 30K), what would you expect my maintenance expenses to look like? I know impossible to be precise, but ANY thoughts based on experience would be helpful. Have to decide this week. Thanks!

Ive had the S4 just over 2 years & ive covered around 10k miles in that time. If you stay away from the main dealers, which is a pain for me as i live 2 miles from Williams in Bristol, then the running costs are reasonable. Last year i had a A service by Esprit Engineering, he charges £25 per hour, i also had the cam belt done, recon water pump, wheel bearing, K&N air filter, front green stuff brake pads & loads of touch up things & the bill was £960. The car has never felt better. If the same work had been done buy Williams you could easily double the cost.

On average if the car is in pretty good order to start with id say between £1,000 to £2,500 per year. Throw in a set of tyres all round and its a bit higher.

One thing i will say though is you WILL have little things go wrong with it. You got to stay on top of them or something else goes wrong because the first thing wasnt done in time! The car definately has a personality, keep it on your side!
