Elite News
A 1974 BBC production on Lotus, featuring the M50 Elite, will soon be available on video at a price of £12.50. The 29 minute video contains interviews with all the usual suspects of the time, but is essentially a promotional video for the M50 Elite. Also available soon will be a six page spread in Practical Classics on the M50 Elite, which will be the subject of a 'Buyers Guide'.
Discussion
I know the 1970's Elite is unloved. I hated mine!
I remember returning the car one fine evening to fine the boot filled with petrol from a split fuel line. I can't tell you how close I was to throwing a lighted match in there....
However, I also have fond memories of the wedge and would like to buy the video. (Video? I thought it was all DVD these days?)
So, when's it out and where can I buy a copy?
PS. Remember the Italian Job is out on video this month....

It's being made available by Micheal Marsh, the registrar or the Elite/Eclat register. He can be contacted at berrimarsh@yahoo.com
I saw the video at the Club Lotus show at Donnington this year, and it's worth £12.50 for it's novelty value alone. Th price has apparently been set by the BBC, who own the Copyrights to the programme, and have given permisson to Micheal to sell it, on the agreement that the purchasers sign a form of some sort, all very complicated, he will be able to explain more fully. And BTW, Theres nothing wrong with Elites!

I had a love/hate reltionship with my Elite.
When I worked - I loved it when it didn't....
It was a little heavy for a Lotus.
There's were some strange resonances at certain speeds.
The Eliectics were hit and miss.
The performance was ok but not electric.
The ride comfort was very good.
The steering was excellent. (An attribute I always feel is missed in reviews)
When I finally removed all the gremlins, it made a fine motor car.
On balance, I would say that I remember my Elite with affection.
Does anyone know what became of RRU 492N?
(As I recall I sold her to a body builder called "Popeye" ;-)
PS. The email address for berrimarsh@yahoo.com doesn't seem to work. Have I spelt it right?

My appologies, the Email address for Micheal Marsh Is

IMO the Elite is a wonderous invention, it's the only way I would ever have been able to afford a Lotus, and what a fab car it is. I don't know whether you have seen the profile of my car in members cars, but I have had an awful lot of problems and spent a lot of money, far more than the car will ever be worth, but hey, "LOTUS" Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious!
Your quite correct that the steering is very precise, although not with the "benifit" of power steering apparently, as at speed it makes the car very skitish.
As for performance, mine will see off most so called "Sports models" how fast do you want to go?! It's 160bhp and not all that heavy really. Pound (£) for pound (lb) the most car you can get for your money I'd wager. anyway, try the new address, hope it works this time, if not, let me know and I'll get hold of him on the Lotus Lists for you.
Cheers Simon.
