hi there,i'm thinking about buying an elise early next year, i want to have two insurance policies one for the elise and one for a cheep runabout, but i've been told you can only use your no claims bonus on one policy, even though i can only drive one car at a time! anyone got any ideas around my problem? I'm trying to run an elise on a small budget ! :0P

I have an Elise and a Ford Ka. The way I do it is simple: I'm insured on the Elise with wifey as a named driver, and she is insured on the Ka with me as a named driver. If you haven't got a wife/partner, you'll probably save more money using any no-claims on the Elise (unless your runabout is expensive to insure obviously!). I'm 32, and with 5yrs no-claims, I'm paying a smidge less than £700pa for the Elise with Direct Line.

If you get a 5 year old + Elise, Footman James wilinsure it for you under a 'classic' policy. Use all your NCB on the runabout. It will probably have to be a limited mileage policy and the lower the miles, the lower the premium.
Policies are usually 1500, 3000 and 5000 miles.
PS I don't work for them but have had Loti (?)insured with them in the past. When I had to claim, they paid out in less than a month!

Not sure if this will help (depends if you have a partner or not) but when I got a new car I insured it with Tesco and they agred to give my wife full no claims bonus (she had none of her own) as she had been insured on my policy for a number of years. So I kept my car insured inder my name and insured the new car under her name, both policies benefiting from max NCD

Hello,

I am a scheme motor manager for a major insurer (oh no no no) if that gives you a glue !!!

You should with most companys now be able to obtain a mirror bonus policy for a second vehicle. The best way it to insure the elise with your bonus and contact a insurer who will mirror your bonus on another car.

Terms normally are that you have no claim/convictions and I would choose a car that is normal, no gti/xr2 etc

Hope this helps
