North Weald Airfield hosts first event

SELOC, the Lotus Enthusiasts Club has announced details of its 2005 sprint championship, with the first event to be held at North Weald Airfield (right), near Stansted Airport, Essex on Sunday 13 February.

The North Weald event has classes for almost every type of car. Previous events have seen all sorts of vehicles from Lotus Elises, Nobles, TVRs, V8 Caterhams, single seaters and many more. Everyone is welcome.

It forms part of the SELOC Championship that will be contested at three events at the North Weald circuit and also two other sprints will be available through Borough 19 at Hethel and Lydden Hill.

2005 Diary

  • Sunday 13th February - North Weald - SELOC exclusive
  • Sunday 10th July - North Weald - SELOC exclusive
  • Sunday 7th August - Hethel - B19 day
  • Saturday 17th September - Lydden B19 day

As well as the many competitors that normally take part we have a special competitor taking part in the event: Fiona Leggate (MG Sport & Racing Driver, Mayflower MG and Britcar) will take part in a Lotus Elise 160 sport, see www.fionaleggate.co.uk for more information on Fiona.

As usual prizes for fastest time of the day and class winners will be awarded.

If you have always wanted to have a go at motorsport but never quite knew how to go about it, this is the simplest way to start and great fun.

Its timed against the clock, there's only you on the circuit, so unlike a trackday, you have it all to yourself.

There are always people willing to help out anyone who has not tried a sprint before and there will be plenty of people trying it out for the first time.

Wow, so provided I turn up in my bog standard road legal elise with a proban suit, BS Type A Helmet, filled in MSA licence application form and about 100 quid to cover the years licence and the entry fee I can go racing?

Excellent!

No not exactly - you need to pay for the event and membership of SELOC via the seloc shop at www.seloc.org and bring a cheque for the licence only for £31.00

Hi Guy's

Can we turn up and watch entry fee, or do we have to pay the full £75 ?

Proban OK for sprints on a National B Licence.

I terms of viewing, NW do not allow spectators as there is no where for them to safely view the goings on.

Anyway with a TT'd Liz, shouldn't you be having a go? Always a entertaining when you're trying to get traction down the start straight.

Didn't know that Felix, thought Proban was no longer allowed for anything. When is it planned to be withdrawn?

Yep, come and have a go, it's the next step up from track days
