Does anyone have experience of putting a through pipe in place of the CAT?

I think mine is knackered - symptoms are a severe loss of power that gets worse as the system heats up, and as more noticable the higher the rev range (cant actually rev past 4500 rpm in gear).

I suspect the cat is melted (fairly sure its not spark, intake or other commoner faults - the engine starts and idles perfectly).

Ive only got 17K on my Mk2 but I plugged in a scantool and Im getting a CAT error (bit of a giveaway) - I had one a few months ago and just cleared the errors with the scantool, it hasnt come back again but the error is showing.

Anwyay - my real question is, if you get rid of the CAT, how do you prevent the mill light from coming on (surely the HEGO sensor will notice there is 0% CAT efficiency)?

Assume this is an Elise?

You can get a MIL light eliminator here which is designed for use with a CRP and will stop the light coming on. You'll still need a CTA come MOT time unless you can find a station that will 'pass' it or pop a spare CAT on for you for the test.

Cheers cuzza.

Ah - so THAT's how is done - I always wondered that!

OK, thanks for that - and the link looks good (or bad, depending on if I value a healthy bank balance - I could easily spend a fortune in that online shop!)

At the very least, they charge half the lotus price even for a standard CAT.

Do you, (or anyone) know if the "sports CAT" is a big improvement over the standard, and how does it compare to the straight through pipe? Im not sure if I can take the hassle of having to put a standard cat back on come MOT time, the sports cat sounds like a happy medium solution....
