Unbelievable Lotus Elan Story

I came home from the Pistonheads Northants run this afternoon, and as I drive up the road 100yards from my house I see a Azure Blue with Magnolia Leather Elan S2, just like the one I had 8 years ago.

I have been looking for my old elan to repurchase for some months now, with not much hope to be honest. Anyway, this car is on a private plate and having parked up I go down to look at it. It has blue piping just like my elan, and aircon, which is rare on the S2's.

So i leave a note explaining my interest and expect nothing. An hour later my wife tells me "the lotus guy is coming round", and on his appearance he just happens to have the V5 in the handbook. The V5 shows the registration prior to the plate change and it is indeed my old car.

The guy who now owns it lives in Bristol and had come to a bbq at his mates house down the road. This was the first time he had ever visited. Both of them know pistonheads so I took them out in the Bentley and my wife got to take our old car for a spin...bizarre, its a small world!!!

I take it there's a sad ending, and he's not willing to sell (not surprised really!)

actually its marginally more positive than that, he is about to get a company car and is deciding what to do with it
