Evora Convertible, under £60k = problem solved

IMO anyway.
A reasonable looking soft top roof, provided it is not designed by Stevie Wonder, could even make the Evora look a little less awkward from some angles.
Price it sensibly ( but charge more for options ) and with the auto option also now available, this thing would sell pretty well around the world IMO to both rich American women as a "shopping at the mall machine", Lotus enthusiasts and Asian poseurs.
Problem solved.

don't take this the wrong way but dynamically the chassis is probably good enough now, the problem is the styling. its clumsy and compromised partly because of those back seats. good from some angles then bad from others - proportionally unbalanced which is a russell carr signature anyway. and before everyone jumps down my throat this is illustrated in part by the abysmal sales numbers.
chopping the roof off wont generate significant long term sales. one of the biggest problems with the car is the styling simply doesn't appeal to those outside the frat. or some of those inside (frankly). it doesn't make you NEED to have the car, screw how much it costs.
you either produce a better car than the competition that doesn't look great or you produce something that's not as good but looks infinitely better. its one or the other.
to solve the evora enigma they should imho let coco put a completely new (aggressive) body on the car and drop those back seats, just have an iso fix bracket and bench as getting adults in the back of an evora is a total joke anyway.
if he can get it to look anything like that elan he did the global market would be kicking hethels door down for one.
what the co needs is a 3 year waiting list with the factory running 24h - evora cab will not do that.

Have you seen the renders of the convertible? It changes the way the car looks quite dramatically.
From my own point of view, if you remove the +2 from the Evora, you've finally got me to walk away from Lotus. If I wanted a pure 2 seater experience, I'd buy an Elise or Exige, save a load of money and drive away happy. I've done the Elise, and now want a car that has grown with me - which means being able to at least have a nod towards family life.

The Evora had great reviews but Lotus over priced it and it didn't sell. A convertible would be very popular at the right price point with with the excellent new Boxster S at £45k with much better build quality there's no way they could justify more.
£45k and it will sell in bucket loads - reduce the coupe price in the process too.
Come on Lotus - get realistic - the high price hasn't worked, worth a try, but you make great cars and deserve to be selling more than 81 cars.

The Evora convertible has been designed and I understand signed off. The business just needs to stack up for them to build it. Fingers crossed.
The Esprit has been developed with a convertible very much in mind. Again I understand the design is finalised but its now about the DRB review and the business case.
Everything else is now crossed....

its actually starting to look dated imho ... needs a complete overhaul not just the roof chopped off.

Don't perpetuate the high price claims people make of the Evora. I know what you mean, but the 'S starts at a shade under £63K.Even the Exige costs more than £45k. At least be realistic
That said, you're right - the convertible is going to be significantly more than £45K.

Agreed. The Evora is not far off 911 money and Porsche nearly went under when that was all they were selling. It took the Boxter to turn things around for them.
While Lotus does have the Elise, Exige and Europa none of them have the broad appeal that the Boxter has. While they are all excellent drivers cars they don't mix practicality and performance in such a balanced way.
I would love to buy an Evora as while it is a great drivers car is still practical for everyday use.
If the convertible version of the Evora was priced low enough to be as affordable as the Boxter then it could really turn things around.
Porsche do this with the Boxter / Cayman. Why can't Lotus do the same?
