Fancy a Job at Lotus

Another 100 bods needed to help build Elises

Group Lotus plc is seeking over 100 new staff for its manufacturing facility at Hethel, near Wymondham, Norfolk, UK, as it seeks to increase production of the Elise to keep up with demand.

Lotus is increasing its total weekly production rate from 97 to 120 units, which involves introducing a second shift in some areas of the plant. The majority of the expanded capacity will be filled by increased production of the recently launched American-specification Elise, which is seeing strong demand in its first year on sale in the USA.

"There are over a hundred vacancies ranging from roles on the production line, in the bonding facility, in the paint shop, in our Norwich fabrication facility, and in the final preparation area," explains Clive Dopson, Manufacturing Director for Group Lotus. "We're offering these positions on a 12-month contract basis through Select Appointments as we recognise that production may stabilise after the peak in demand following the launch of the American-specification Elise."

"Most importantly the firm has managed to source Toyota's acclaimed 1.8-litre powerplant for its latest 111R and Exige models," explains Auto Express. "Getting the 111R past the tough American emissions and safety regulations was no mean feat.  Everyone at the firm deserves praise for their impressive work over the last year. Long may it continue."

Lotus' £6 million manufacturing facility has produced over 13,500 high performance lightweight sportscars since it opened in 2000. It produces a range of variants of the Elise and Exige models in the facility alongside sportscars for General Motors (Vauxhall VX220 & Opel Speedster) and advanced composite crash structures for the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.

Ideally, applicants for the positions will have some assembly/mechanical production experience, and be used to working in a factory/manufacturing environment. Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and able to adapt to new processes quickly and effectively. They will need to have their own transport due to the location of the Hethel site, and preferably also have
safety footwear. Starting from early August, the contracts will run until August 2005.

Jeez that's encouraging for the new employees "we can't afford to buy you your safety boots..." Lotus are obviously doing well ... they need some Russian help
