Replacing fuel tank

Has anyone replace the passenger side fuel tank in a stevens esprit ? I have a 1990 SE and having a very are go of it. Half the engine compartment is out and it still wont come. This a huge design flaw for a mainenance afterthought. The next tank is going to S/S.

I'd recommend just phoning up a Lotus garage service department and asking to speak to their head mechanic. I've done that in the past a few times and they've always been helpful - especially if there is some trick to it....which there often is with non-sensical Lotus design!
