It's been in bits for years following a stripdown for 'restoration' but I have to accept that I just don't have the time or money to put it back together and have come to the relucant decision of parting company... Question is should I try and sell it as a project, or just piecemeal for spares?

Keep it together and sell as a project. Still plenty of people out there willing to take a decent project on - provided that it's not going to be a complete basket case i.e. body, chassis & engine are generally ok.

I think selling as a project is the best. Firstly it gives the car a chance to get back on the road with someone who has the time, money and enthusiasm to restore it, but also it means that you clear your garage in one go.

Breaking for parts is attractive for low value cars where the sum of the parts is more than the value of a restoration project, but I'm not so sure that applies here. The engine would sell, although it's not a straight swop into an Elan so you need a Europa owner. Likewise the gearbox, glass, body panels and interior trim - all will sell in time.

After that things slow down, selling a poor bodyshell & chassis will be hard work and the Lucas or Triumph-derived bits, suspension, etc are mostly available new from specialists so why buy s/h ? I could see you being left with a pile of undesirable parts and making several trips to the local tip !

And in the end, do you really want to scrap it ? Surely it would be better for someone else to take it on as a project ?

You could box it up for me and ship to New Zealand. Can you give more details?
