Started to change the fuel filter on my '88 MY Excel today, but gave up after a lot of petrol got into the boot. I may try again tomorrow, but this time, I will remove the whole filter from the boot wall before I take it apart. Anyone else able to tell me the best technique to minimise fuel spillage?

MOT on Friday after four years off the road. Then Castle Combe on Saturday if all is well. Anybody else going?

Paul.

I had the same problem on my Excel - I thought the "flowlock" valve was supposed to prevent that, but I assume my valve is knackered because the fuel just kept flowing. After that experience, I remove the whole filter housing but also make sure the car is running on fumes beforehand!

I know this reply is a month late .. but I've just got my Excel back on the road after 18 months, and was probably at Castle Coombe that weekend, and have a Grif 500 too!

My Excel needs a complete respray - half the lacquer is missing!

A little more than a month late. .

I managed to change the filter OK by the way. As I said, I removed the whole thing from the car, and it was easy then.
