Can anyone tell me what is the correct length of aircon belt on my 87 SA?

The belt I removed was an 800C but that was way too tight and even with the idler pully hanging off it had to be cut off! I guess the correct size is somewhere around 810-815mm but would be good to know definately so I can buy the correct length.

Thanks,
Nick

It's probably the same as the manual car. Why not just visit your local Lotus dealer, or most of them will do mail order.

No local dealer anymore, not since Nelmes closed. Doesn't seem worth mail order for one drive belt, especially as I suspect they will send me one that is too short. Then I have the grief of returning etc. If I could find the length then I can order locally and return easily if it turns out to be wrong.

If they send you the wrong belt, there is probably something different/modified about your car. Don't you want to find out what has been changed?

Nothing particularly unusual just this particular combination of later type mounting bracket combined with earlier type idler pulley. Lotus parts manual lists the wrong belt for this engine number, not unusual they probably made a number of cars with this combination just that it never made it into the parts book correctly.

I have the two possible Lotus part numbers but which one is the longer belt? More importantly how long is it, I guess around 810-815mm. Anyone got an aircon belt with numbers in this region?

Yes, that can happen. My '82 S3 Esprit had some S2 components in the fuel system, and my Elan +2 had a mechanical oil pressure gauge when the parts book only ever showed the electric type. I had to get the part No. from the factory.

Why not measure what you need?

Set the adjuster to about half way, hold the remains of the old belt in place, then measure the gap and add to the old belt length.
