Not sure which one you're talking about but here the (XV10) Camry had the asthmatic 2.2 4 cylinder or the Camry Vienta, later renamed the Vienta, with the 3VZ-FE 3.0 24V Quad-Cam V6 - how good does that sound?!
In reality it is actually a fine engine, very smooth, 185BHP.
The boxy one before that I don't think had a 2.4 either. The one well before that, from the 80s was I think available with a 2.4 and that would be the same as used in several other models but I know nothing about them. And besides, economy doesn't register on my radar really.

There were later 2.4s I think but we're well into the noughties so I don't think you're talking about them.
To anyone considering a manual V6 Camry - do it, you'll never look back and will be the envy of your peers.
